Sorry i guess i didn`t understand your question, i pointed out that it was the 1960 hamburg steinway B Hmmmm, I saw that but it's not clear that it is sampled or modeled from that, particularly the way it's worded on the page.

What is Arts Vista? Modeled? Sampled? I don't see any specs on the site. Yes it is modelled after that one, what they are explaining is that there is a list of presets, for all the different kinds of keyboard controllers, so that it reacts the same way as the 1960 Hamburg Steinway Model "B" no matter what controller you use. Well, that's not what Sound on Sound says, they say it's Sampled: The 5.5GB of samples it uses were derived from a 1960s Steinway B — an instrument roughly seven feet long, which has a sound that's noticeably more focused and less silky than a modern nine foot (and £100,000!) Model D Steinway.ĭid you miss this part in the article where it says 1960s Steinway B With Truepianos you've got a very accurate sound but there's no 'distance' - not reverb, exactly, but that feeling of not having your head right up to the soundboard, as it were.īut thanks very much for sharing these tracks with us. I've thought about this before but what I suspect would solve that problem would be some kind of plugin that puts small amount of random phase fluctuations into the signal - just a little bit - to simulate the airspace that sits between a real piano and whatever mics are being used. TruePianos is an excellent product (and great to have included with S8) and in a complex mix it would probably be easier to meld with everything else, but in an exposed situation it does, to my ears, sound slightly 'plasticky'. It sounds very synthetic in the midrange as others have noted.

I've never thought much of the Pianoteq instrument at all. It sounds much more like a real piano, particularly through headphones.

My personal preference is for the Art Vista.

If so, those of us who have different pianos (in my case I have PMI's Steinway and Bosendorfer sample sets plus the Sonart Yamaha C7 that was recently made available for free), could play the same piece through those as a comparison and perhaps post back MP3s. I was wondering whether you'd be willing to put up the actual MIDI tracks for either of those pieces.
